Cash Processor Job Description

Purpose of the Role

The primary responsibility of this role is to efficiently handle cash processing tasks while minimizing risks to both the company and customers. This includes receiving and preparing cash, conducting note sorting, reconciling deposits, processing coins, and maintaining accurate records, all while adhering to company policies and procedures.

Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

Cash Receiving and Preparation:

  • Receive and update deposits on relevant systems.
  • Adhere to all company policies to mitigate potential risks.
  • Inspect containers or bags for damages and report any discrepancies to the Team Controller.
  • Record containers or bags on applicable systems.
  • Prepare cash efficiently for note counting and ensure the workstation is set up properly.

Note Sorting and Reconciliation:

  • Sort all deposits and notes on the same day, within cutoff times.
  • Forward rejected notes to the Reject Teller for verification and balancing.
  • Display a board with client information, date, denominations, bundle count, and operator name to the camera.
  • Reconcile each deposit and report any discrepancies to the Team Controller.
  • Record production data accurately and sign the downtime register for any machine issues.
  • Verify end-of-day bundles with the Team Controller and perform daily balancing.

Reconciliation of Deposits:

  • Reconcile rejected notes to validate information.
  • Inspect rejected notes for counterfeit, dye-stained, or damaged currency.
  • Facilitate cash transfers to vaults and perform end-of-day balancing.
  • Manage shortages and surpluses according to standard procedures.

Desktop Deposit Processing:

  • Check containers/bags for damage or tampering and report issues.
  • Log each container/bag on the system, ensuring deposits are kept separate by customer.
  • Complete all deposits on the same day and balance transactions as required.
  • Handle discrepancies in line with standard operating procedures.

Coin Processing:

  • Sort and process bulk coin deposits as per company guidelines.
  • Record client information and operator details on a board and display it to the camera.
  • Verify money bins, seals, denominations, and bin registers.
  • Balance money per client or deposit and report discrepancies to the Team Controller.
  • Address machine issues and complete end-of-day reconciliation.

Integrated Deposit Processing:

  • Validate all system-integrated transactions according to bank service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Inform client services of any unlinked account numbers to avoid delays.
  • Verify deposit account numbers to prevent losses or errors.
  • Report system downtimes or delayed batches to the Team Controller.

Payroll and Change Processing:

  • Process payroll and change transactions in line with customer-specific SLAs.
  • Address discrepancies promptly and maintain equipment by reporting defects.
  • Follow protocols for float packing and dispatching, ensuring bank authorization before dispatch.

Treasury and Prepacking:

  • Accurately handle the packing and unpacking of bank and ATM cash.
  • Manage consumables efficiently and record bag and seal numbers correctly.

Equipment Maintenance and Governance:

  • Operate equipment in line with standard operating procedures and maintain cleanliness before and after shifts.
  • Comply with SBV Services’ ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standards.
  • Actively support SBV’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) journey by managing and reporting requirements.

Leadership and Culture:

  • Uphold the company’s values and culture, fostering confidence and commitment.
  • Act as an ambassador for change and innovation, ensuring smooth integration and communication across business units.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 with Maths Literacy.
  • Successful completion of SBV Cash Processor Training.
  • At least 6 months of prior experience as a cashier or teller (advantageous).
