Job Description

Main Purpose of the Job

The primary objective of this role is to assist patients with all aspects of admissions and discharges in a professional and efficient manner. This includes minimizing operational and financial risks to the organization while consistently exceeding client expectations.

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Accurately capture and process admissions (including pre-admissions and bookings) according to established procedures.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks by adhering to relevant policies and protocols.
  • Facilitate a smooth and effective discharge process in line with the Patient Administration Manual.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding patient information.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Grade 12 or equivalent senior certificate.
  • No Experience is required.
  • Reception administration experience, preferably in a private healthcare setting will be an advantage.

Required Job Skills and Knowledge

  • Proficiency with the Debt pack Enquiry application.
  • Knowledge of admission and discharge processes, bed management, and preparation for the next day.
  • Familiarity with anatomy and medical terminology.
  • Experience with hospital switchboard systems.
  • Thorough understanding of Patient Administration policies and procedures, including patient confidentiality, cash handling, patient management, and bed overrides.
  • Competence in using patient administration programs on the AS400 system.
  • Computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Office.
  • Understanding of ICD and CPT codes.
  • Knowledge of medical aid schemes and the private healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with the Workmen’s Compensation Act (WCA), including processes and procedures.
  • Awareness of emergency and major incident protocols (e.g., fire, floods, robbery).
  • Ability to identify potential financial risks, such as handling patient valuables and managing blocklist cases.
