Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals for various outlets to a high standard.
  • Support functions as required by the business.
  • Operate commercial kitchen equipment like stoves, ovens, and fryers.
  • Ensure proper storage and efficient use of food supplies.
  • Rotate food items in refrigerators and manage those nearing expiration according to restaurant policies.
  • Assist chefs by contributing ideas and overseeing tasks.
  • Set up food stations as directed by chefs.
  • Follow recipes accurately during food preparation and cooking.
  • Handle portion control and maintain presentation standards.
  • Arrange food aesthetically on serving plates.
  • Keep the kitchen clean and organized at all times.
  • Adhere to best food practices and kitchen hygiene standards.
  • Guide kitchen staff in maintaining high culinary standards.
  • Properly store leftover food.
  • Help inspect food deliveries for quantity and quality.
  • Contribute to stock rotation and ensure food inventory is managed.
  • Assist with after-hours and weekend functions based on business needs.

Inherent Requirements

  • A qualification in food preparation and cooking from a recognized and accredited curinary institution.
  • National Vocational Certificate at NQF level 4.
  • Familiarity with HACCP standards.
